What is Photobiomodulation? (Red light therapy)
Light therapy—or photobiomodulation (PBM) as it’s technically called—is an incredible form of treatment for numerous health and fitness issues. The clinical evidence supporting the benefits of red and near infrared light is very extensive.
At Ritual, we use an ATP Charger light panel which offers the user both red light and near infra red lights (NIR). The NIR light is invisible to the human eye.
What is the difference between red and near infrared light?
Red and near infrared (NIR) light are both in the natural light spectrum and have been clinically proven to enhance cellular function. That said, they do have 2 different functions. Red light at 660 nm is readily absorbed by skin tissue, leading to improved skin health and collagen production, whereas infrared light at 850 nm is invisible to the human eye and penetrates into deeper tissue, leading to benefits like decreased muscular and joint pain and increased recovery from exercise.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the treatment? The treatment delivers clinical-grade power, known as irradiance, made up of red and near infrared light. The recommended treatment time is 5-10 minutes/treatment area, which will result in a clinically proven, effective dose. The therapy is effective in producing health benefits in both superficial and deep tissues. You may experience detoxification symptoms at first so if you are new to the therapy, we will work you up to 10 minutes.
Can light therapy help me lose weight? Light therapy stimulates our cells and boosts cellular energy. In addition to enhancing skin health and muscle recovery, clinical research has shown light therapy can improve the body’s ability to metabolise fat, making it a perfect complimentary treatment to our Whole Body Cryotherapy.
Can I wear make up? Yes, but clean skin is preferable when treating the face.
Can I use the therapy if I have breast implants? Yes, absolutely.
Do I need eye protection? No. The only exception is if you have had Laser eye surgery, in which case we require clearance from then your doctor first or the use of eye protection. Please note, it is NOT recommended to stare directly at the light panel. You can close your eyes until your eyes adjust.
What if I’m pregnant? We require signed clearance from you doctor first.
What if I’m on medication? Hundreds of clinical studies have found light therapy to be safe and effective, however, if you use medications such as Tetracycline, Digoxin, Retin A, and/or other photosensitising drugs, we recommended you consult your healthcare provider before using our therapy.
